Where is the sculpture that is pictured here?
In Norway, a 6 hr drive north of Trondheim, you will find Vega Island. You will need to take a ferry to get to the island. Once on the island, on the main road, look for a sign reading “Skulpturlandskap” and turn off. If you aren’t looking for the sign carefully, you might miss it. Park in the lot and wander around a bit, and you will finally find the sculpture. I took this photo around 5 years ago.
Can anyone tell me which artist made this sculpture?
The sculpture is part of project titled Artscape Norldand (Skulpturlandskap Nordland). Artscape Nordland is an collection of art sculptures which are located in 33 different municipalities of the Nordland county of Norway. Each sculpture is located in a nature landscape, and each sculpture was created by an artist who visited the municipality where their sculpture was later displayed. The artists knew the landscapes where their sculptures would be displayed, and the sculptures are meant to affect how their audiences view the landscapes. Meanwhile, the landscapes also change how you view the sculptures.
For more information, you can visit the website for Artscape Norldand here: https://skulpturlandskap.no/
I can’t figure out which artist made this particular sculpture! The website for Artscape Nordland does not picture or describe the sculpture above. Instead, the website claims that a very different sculpture can be found at this site on Vega island. But the sculpture it discusses was nowhere to be seen.
This is a mystery – a mystery sculpture – on an island in Norway. Who made it?
(I’m not the first person to recognize this mystery. See a blog post from Anrt Flatmo that talks about this, too: https://westcoastpeaks.com/Peaks/vega2.html)
